The Amelia Islands car show Concours d'Elegance (French for "a competition of elegance") is an annual event in the U.S. that is like a beauty pageant for classic cars. A panel of experts, who are specialists for each car type, rates each car entry. Each classic car that is displayed at the annual event is rated for function, authenticity, style, quality and history.
This year's annual event that was held during March 13-15 at the gorgeous Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island was a tremendous success. The yearly car show was every car enthusiast's dream come true and featured a breathtaking variety of elegant and classic cars that awed the audiences. The event fetched a record $20 million dollars with most of the proceeds going to various charities, which help poor and needy folks in North Florida.
The centre piece of the event was RM Sotheby's automobile auction that displayed many classics and few new models put up for bid. The event included the priciest and most gorgeous cars of the bygone era that had rich history that far exceeded their hefty price tag.
The vintage car collection of Senator Howard Baker - who passed away last summer - has been sold in an auction in Tennessee last Saturday on March 14th. The late senator was President Ronald Regan's chief of staff and had also served as an ambassador to Japan. Senator Baker had left behind him a legacy of cars that were of great value to vintage car enthusiasts. Most of the proceeds of the vintage car collection that was auctioned off at the University of Tennessee went to Howard H. Baker Jr. Institute for Public Policy.
Senator Baker was a car enthusiast and collecting cars was his hobby. He had a custom garage adjacent to his house in Huntsville that housed the vintage car collection. All of the cars that were sold off at the auction were road worthy and ran perfectly. The auction had gathered large number of vintage car enthusiasts who had flocked to the place to view and bid for the cars. The cars were displayed under a tent at the Baker Center on the UT campus. People could bid for the classic cars in person, by phone or online.
All the six cars were sold one at a time and took under an hour to be auctioned off at the site. The car collection that was put up at the auction for sale was in its restoration period condition. This means that you could buy the car from the dealer in the same condition.
